Theravada Daily is a Buddhist practice-tracking app. This policy explains what
information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We've
written it to describe exactly what the app does — not more, not less.
Summary
Local-first Your practices, completion history,
awards and special-day notes are stored on your device by default.
Optional account Signing in with Google is optional
and only used to back up and sync that same data across your devices.
No ads, no analytics The app has no advertising SDKs
and no analytics/tracking SDKs of any kind.
Location is on-demand only Your location is only
read when you tap "Find Nearby Temple," and is sent only to OpenStreetMap to
run that one search — never stored, never sent anywhere else.
Information We Collect
Information you create in the app — stored on your device:
- Practice names, categories, frequencies and reminder times you set up
- Which days you've marked a practice complete
- Award progress and special-day contributions you log
- Your language and theme preference
None of this is sent anywhere unless you choose to sign in (see below).
Information from an optional Google sign-in:
- Your name, email address and profile picture, as provided by Google, to identify your account
- The practice data listed above, synced to our cloud database (Google Firebase/Firestore) under your account, so it can be restored on another device or after reinstalling the app
If you never sign in, none of this applies — the app works fully offline as a guest,
and no account information is ever created or collected.
Information read only when you use a specific feature:

Location — read from your device only at the moment you tap
"Find Nearby Temple," and sent only to
OpenStreetMap's Overpass API,
a free public service, to search for nearby temples. We do not store this
location, log it, or send it to any other service.
How We Use Information
- To show your practices, streaks and progress back to you
- To schedule the local reminder notifications you set (generated entirely on your device — no notification server is involved)
- To sync your data across your devices, only if you've signed in
- To find the nearest temple, only at the moment you ask for it
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
Third-Party Services
The app talks to a small, fixed set of outside services, and only when relevant:
- Google Sign-In & Firebase (Google LLC) — only if you choose to sign in, for authentication and optional cloud sync of your practice data.
- OpenStreetMap Overpass API — only when you tap "Find Nearby Temple," to search for temples near your current location.
- Apple Maps / Google Maps / Yandex Maps — only if you choose to open a found temple's location in one of these apps; at that point you leave Theravada Daily and that map app's own privacy policy applies.
We have no advertising network, analytics SDK, or crash-reporting SDK integrated into the app.
Data Retention & Deletion
Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app, or you
can delete individual practices at any time within the app (long-press a
practice → Delete).
If you've signed in and synced data to our cloud database, that data persists
under your account until you ask us to delete it. To request deletion of your
cloud account data, contact us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
Theravada Daily is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly
collect personal information from children under 13.
Your Choices
- You can use the entire app without ever signing in or granting location access.
- You can sign out of your account at any time from Settings.
- You can deny or later revoke location permission in your device's system settings — the rest of the app continues to work normally without it.
- You can delete any practice, which removes it from your device (and from the cloud, if signed in, on your next sync).
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Material
changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
